If you watched Raw last week, you saw Samoa Joe "injure" Dean Ambrose in the locker room. That was the out the company gave to move his feud with Joe to Roman Reigns over his Intercontinental championship. But the real reason is because Ambrose is legitimately hurt. He had a ruptured triceps tendon that had to be surgically repaired last week, which usually has a recovery time of 4-6 months. But this was a high-grade triceps tendon tear, which is a more serious injury, which could take up to 9 months to heal. His procedure was performed by Dr. Jeffrey Dugas in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Dugas explained the prognosis and surgical procedure to WWE.com: βHe tore some of the distal triceps tendon where it attaches to the forearm bone, called the olecranon. He basically tore about 50 percent of the triceps tendon away from the bone. So yesterday we repaired that back down to the bone where it tore off of. The surgery was very straightforward; we removed all of the extra bursal tissue β all of that extra swollen stuff around his elbow.β Apparently, Ambrose is already doing physical therapy and may actually be back sooner than the 9 month recovery time estimate. In any event, Ambrose is likely to miss WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans and could be gone until the summer. With Ambrose out of action, WWE went with Jason Jordan as Seth Rollins' tag partner on last night's episode of Raw, winning the Raw Tag Team Championships from Sheamus and Cesaro.
